- To work in partnership with health authorities and other funding partners, existing hospices, palliative care programs and other related community groups.
- To support research and education on hospice care and bereavement.
Values
- The VHS believes in enhancing the quality of life for those facing advanced illness and death.
- While neither hastening nor postponing death, VHS promotes the concept of comfort, dignity and respect for all persons until the moment of death.
- Life is cherished as a precious and fragile journey of growth and development with death and dying as a natural and important part of life.
- Focus is on care rather than cure with a devotion to making this time as pain-free, comfortable and meaningful as possible.
- Family and friends are an integral part of the unit of care.
- Family and friends are supported during bereavement.
