Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of the Vancouver Hospice Society.

We are proud to have an amazing team of over 200 volunteers who work with us to support patients and families at the hospice, and in the community. Volunteers are carefully selected, and those who work directly with patients and families undergo a comprehensive 30-hour hospice training course.

These kind and compassionate individuals sit with dying patients at the bedside, visit palliative individuals in their homes, provide Healing Touch sessions, and offer bereavement support.

Volunteers also run our hospice thrift shops, manage the reception desk, help with administrative tasks, and work in fundraising and special events. Our beautiful gardens are cared for by a crew of dedicated garden volunteers, and our hospice facility is in top shape thanks to the ongoing attention of our maintenance volunteers!

Hospice Volunteers:

All volunteers who work directly with patients & families – either at the hospice or in the community – must successfully complete a standard hospice volunteer training course. *Please note that we are not in need of hospice volunteers at this time. If you wish to apply for future trainings (or have already taken the course elsewhere), please email the following to volunteer@vancouverhospice.org:

  • Hospice Volunteer Application (Download the pdf, open and fill it out on your computer, then re-save with a different file name).
