Kindness. Companionship. Support.

Home Hospice Volunteers

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Home Visiting Program has been cancelled until further notice.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate these challenging times together!

Our Home Hospice Program is a valuable community service where visiting volunteers offer companionship to palliative patients in the community, and in their homes. Home hospice volunteers provide much-needed respite for caregivers and a kind and compassionate presence for individuals in need of emotional and practical support.

The region’s only program of its kind, the Home Hospice Volunteer Program is a partnership between the Vancouver Hospice Society and Vancouver Coastal Health.

Volunteers undergo a comprehensive hospice training course that teaches skills such as active listening and empathic communication. They are also equipped to offer practical support; from advance care planning and navigating palliative resources within the community, to helping with small tasks such as writing letters or going for walks. Some of our volunteers also have specialized training in Healing Touch.

Above all, the volunteer is someone who will listen; someone who can provide compassionate emotional support.
